Oh Hey, Meet the Team

Oh hey, we’re really excited to finally introduce ourselves. We’re a small team with big personalities. We’re going to take a moment and give you, dear reader, a chance to get to know us better! Keep an eye on our blog for a new interview every month.

Third up, Isaac.

Isaac was born in 1990 and lives in Richmond, VA with his partner Taylor and her cat Ada. When he’s not scribbling obscurely humorous comics on post-it notes, he spend his time either shooting and developing film photography, lurking on the local bike-punk community, staring ashamedly at his non-running motorcycle, or journaling about all the above mentioned activities. Isaac used to make a zine about motorcycles and one day hopes to make a full-blown magazine so he can feature all of his talented friends.

Hi Isaac! We’ve got some questions, put together by a committee, for you to answer. We’re stoked. Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die? If so, elaborate.

My secret hunch/running joke is that I may be immortal. Not like in a fun way, more like a doomed Twilight Zone kinda way. I fall a lot and get in all kinds of accidents, but no matter how banged up I get I always tend to spring right back up. Having said this now outloud and in text the Universe will find a way to humble me so my hunch now is that I'll die at any moment....

Ok, ok, interesting. What book or books had a significant impact on you and why?

Some highlights: The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin; Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon; Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell; The Once and Future King by T.H. White; The Agony and the Ecstasy by Irving Stone; 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. Not to mention all the graphic novels that have had just as big of an impact. Why? Well these books have formed how I think and view the world. Each one has added a facet to my world-view by opening my mind to another viewpoint.

Sounds like we should add these to our reading list! Next committee approved question : Are dipping sauces important to you? If you could only choose two for the rest of your life, what two would that be and why?

Absolutely. Sriracha and Djion being the two big ones for me, on risqué days I mix the two. Being born without a sense of smell it affects my taste so I like to punch things up a bit. Not overpowering, just enough to know I'm eating food.

*Eating food noises* OMG, sorry, you made us hungry. Please complete this sentence - “If someone says _________ is their favorite movie, it’s a giant red flag for me”

If someone says no movie is their favorite movie, it's a giant red flag for me. Earlier in my life I would've had a HUGE list of movies I would have slammed folks for watching--I was a bit of a misplaced movie snob. As I got older though I developed a theory that EVERY movie has one great scene or shot in it. It just a matter of finding amidst all the other crap.

Clearly you’ve never tried to watch SNIPER Special Ops. What did you learn this past year that you want to live out fully in this next year?

Boundaries are important; whether they are personal ones like with work, life, passions, things you hate etc. or if those boundaries are ones someone else is expressing to you. Respect boundaries and life gets easier.

We feel like there’s a deeper discussion here, would you care to elaborate?

Fair enough. Are you a cryer? Do movies or TV shows make you cry? If so, what triggered it? (We’re big on crying, or not. You do you booboo)

I've been known to tear up and have a cry every once in a while--thanks meditation. Yes, the occasional movie or TV does the trick too. I think the last time one got me was... I wanna say maybe Green Knight? I can't say exactly what triggers it but it does happen.

We dropped our notes but there was a witty comment about crying and “I Know Where the Red Fern Grows”. Ok, you make greeting cards, we make greeting cards, time for the hard hitting questions. Which card, made by you, are you most proud of?

My favorite of mine is the That's My Bus one where two folks see their bus in a grocery store. I laughed out loud at my own drawing when I made it. Check out the blog post to learn more!

Figures. Ok, which card, not made by you, is your favorite?

I like the cute fruit strawberry. It's simple, it's direct and it's the perfect way to hide a sassy message to an acquaintance. Really have that sass sneak up on someone and smack 'em in the face.

Hmmmmm. Final question, strong finish. For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

There is a looooong long list that could go here but off the top of my head I would say I'm most grateful for people giving me understanding and/or a second chance. I've got what some might classify as a mercurial personality that goes off on a lot of specific and weird tangents. Sometimes it's a wonder to me that the folks in my life have stuck around and bared with me.

Neato!

Ok everyone, that was the interview, we hope you liked it! We’ve got one more team member to ask the exact same questions so stay tuned for all the excitement!

Love each and everyone of you who read this far. Fuck the quitters. Buy Cards! Send Love!

Oh Hey, Fuck You.
